Why Footballers Wear Shin Guards Over Or Under Socks

Soccer players always wear shin guards over or under socks so as to avoid injury. However, these guards can also be called fashion accessories. Fashion experts say that the use of this accessory actually serves practical purposes as well. Shin guards are an important component of each soccer player s kit, yet nobody knows they exist.

The use of shin guards is not actually a new trend, it just came into the mainstream. From then on, soccer players started wearing this accessory to protect their shins, long socks being the most common accessory that was used earlier. Long socks are made of synthetic fibers, usually polyester, which are known to be durable even during high intensity exercise. When long socks were not available, players started wearing shin guards. Some even changed their name – for example, “Bobby socks” became “Daniyan” and “Cejudo socks” became “Zhang Shi.”

As the sport of soccer grew in popularity in the US and other western countries, footballers started wearing shin guards even when playing indoor games. This accessory was not a trend that would last for long, but slowly became an accepted part of sporting apparel. Eventually, footballers started wearing short shorts during games. Shorts have become the most commonly used clothing accessory in American professional sports. Another fashion accessory that soccer enthusiasts started wearing is tracksuits. Since tracksuits don’t have any style limitations, footballers started wearing them even if they play in a different sport.
